Meet a Homegrown Hero - Dr. Ashley Kennerly
Some of our most extraordinary students are now some of our most extraordinary employees! Here, we will regularly celebrate CCSD alums who are now CCSD employees … meet a Homegrown Hero! #CCSDfam
THEN:
School: Woodstock High School
Favorite Subject: Math, for sure! I loved solving the problems, and I enjoyed the fact that in math, there is always a correct answer to be found.
Favorite teacher(s) and why: I had so many great teachers and loved something about each one, but coach Jason Hubbard (algebra) and Dr. Krista Webb (history) stand out as two of my favorites. They both were so personable and cared about me as a student. Each one made the learning fun in its own way!
Favorite high school memory: Although my family moved to Woodstock before my junior year, plugging in with the band helped me make friends quickly! I was the drum major my senior year and enjoyed the leadership opportunities it provided me. Football games are certainly a highlight in the memory reel!
AND NOW:
School/worksite: Sixes Elementary School
Position with CCSD: Principal
Why did you become an educator: I chose education because I wanted to help people! I started babysitting at a young age, and I always loved working with kids. To this day, growing people -- both students and adults -- is one of my favorite things!
Why did you want to come back and work for CCSD:
Having spent my teenage years in Woodstock, I felt that my roots were here in Cherokee County! Once I completed college, I knew coming back to teach in Cherokee was really coming “home,” and I was excited to give back to the community that had provided me so much. I’ve had the privilege of leading Sixes ES -- a feeder school to Woodstock High School, so it seems like things have really come full circle!
