Sixes Elementary School Principal Dr. Ginger Morgan
Why did you choose to become a Principal?
As a little girl, I came home from elementary school and went straight upstairs to teach my imaginary students with my old-fashioned chalkboard. My parents and grandmother fostered my love for education by taking me to the “Teacher Store,” and when it was time to dress for Career Day, my mother helped me choose a principal outfit. For me, teaching and leading is a calling, much more than just a profession. I have had the opportunity to teach elementary and middle school, serve as an instructional lead strategist, an assistant principal, and now a school principal. I am blessed to be entrusted with leading Sixes Elementary with a very talented staff.
What inspires you in your work as a Principal?
Impacting students and helping children succeed is the best part of my day. Listening to students, supporting teachers, and watching as teachers pour into our students is truly inspiring. Hearing kids as they celebrate learning something new and engaging with students throughout the day is encouraging. The smiles, hugs, high-fives, and accolades make it worth the hard work.
How are you Elevating the Excellence in your school?
Creating an environment where students know and understand the what and the why is key. A continued focus on teacher clarity and student goal-setting provides a foundation for improving student proficiency. We are working toward intentional differentiation for every student and helping students articulate their own strengths and areas for growth. Another way we are building excellence is by evaluating our mission and involving more stakeholders in the school improvement process. Teacher leaders, support specialists, school council members, and a student focus group are playing a significant role in assessing where we are and to determine next steps to address all students’ needs.
